There are many exciting opportunities for internships in Public Health. Whether for credit or experience, an internship will open your eyes to the practical application of concepts learned in the classroom. Internships allow students to showcase the skills and competencies learned during their undergraduate education, and get hands-on, applied experience prior to employment or graduate work.

Internship opportunities are available to students who are a senior status in a health field (Public or Community Health, Exercise Science, Exercise and Wellness). All intern applicants need to complete any pre-requisite requirements that may apply to their internship in their related field. All intern applicants must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and be taking 12 credits (this can include the 3 credits of internship).

Global Health Advocacy Intern at Fund for Global Health

Global Health Advocacy Intern at Fund for Global Health

Join a core team which is recruiting and training student interns and citizen volunteers whose Members of Congress are on the subcommittees of Appropriations that fund foreign aid.  The constituents you recruit will urge these key Members of Congress to increase U.S. funding levels for programs addressing maternal and child health, immunization and tuberculosis.

We are seeking interns or volunteers, to work 10-15 hours per week for a minimum of 4 months.  You will participate in usually one weekly meeting with Seattle staff, in person or via Skype, as well as one-on-one coaching with staff at other times.

(SPANISH SPEAKING REQUIRED/PAID INTERNSHIP) 

BACKGROUND: 
The Asthma Home Visiting program offers free home visits to residents of Salt Lake County with severe and/or uncontrolled asthma.  The goal of this program is that program participants will learn how to recognize asthma symptoms, correctly use asthma medications, and reduce asthma triggers in the home in order to improve their asthma control and improve their overall quality of life.   
SCOPE OF WORK: 
The program consists of three (3) in-home visits and two (2) follow-up phone calls that are conducted by two Asthma program staff.  The purpose of this position will be to go on home visits and to assist with Spanish speaking program participants.  Staff will also be asked to assist as necessary with Spanish translations and interpreting.

Interns will work with the Division of Health Promotion under the supervision of CHES (Certified Health Education Specialists) certified staff. Interns will complete objectives in several program areas, obtain hands-on experience in the CHES competencies, and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a Community Health Educator. Interns are paid through a stipend upon completion of internship hours. Mileage reimbursement is also provided.

The Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems (ICPES) is an eight week summer academic internship program sponsored by The Fund for American Studies in partnership with George Mason University. The program offers undergraduate students a first-hand look at the U.S. political system through:

Position Description:

·         The education Intern would be helping with student orientations—paperwork, filing, and teaching. 

·         He/she would help with diabetes education—paperwork, filing, calling patients and setting up appointments.  Would be able to help teach inpatient, outpatient, gestational clinic and group community class.

·         He/she would help with new hire orientations—paperwork, filing, teaching.

·         He/she would then help the education department with whatever other things may be needed.

·         This internship does require a lot of paperwork/filing/data entry—but the work environment is pretty great! J (please do not apply if paperwork/filing/data entry is not your thing)

Paid or Unpaid internship: This is a non-paid internship.

Work Schedule/Hrs per week: This can vary according to interns school/work schedule.  Thursdays are definitely one of the busier days so that availability is helpful (group class is also on Wednesday evenings every other month).  Generally any day 9:00-3:00 works or partial days. Preferred about 15-20 hours a week.

Location/Address:  Timpanogos Regional Hospital. 750 W. 800 N. Orem; physicians plaza, suite 350.

Minimum Qualifications: Good/professional demeanor, motivated, some basic computer knowledge, able to talk comfortably with clients/patients.

Preferred Qualifications: See above. Friendly, upbeat!
